Harvard and Cornell Top Dartmouth Men's Swimming & Diving

Ithaca, N.Y. - The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team dropped its season opener to Harvard and Cornell this afternoon.

Cornell defeated Dartmouth, 207-93 and Harvard won, 237-63.

On the diving boards, Chris Plante (Valrico, Fla.) took fourth in the one meter with a score of 262.90 and sixth in the three meter with 251.15.  Mikey Brown (Newton, Mass.) took sixth in the one meter scoring 245.50.

Dartmouth's rookies fared well in the butterfly events with Albert Roth (Aurora, Ill.) taking first in the 100 fly in 51.25. He also led the Big Green finishing third in the 200 in 1:53.61. Classmates Will Deredyn (St. Louis, Mo.) and Doherty took fifth and sixth in the 100. Deredyn finished in 52.32 with Doherty just 0.05 behind. Roth went on to take sixth in the 200 individual medley in 1:55.92.

In his first collegiate meet, Onejune Chang (Great Neck, N.Y.) was fourth in the 100 free in 47.55 and fifth in the 200 free in 1:44.27. Dartmouth's top finisher in the 500 free was John Hill (Erie, Pa.), who took seventh in 5:04.41 while Zach Doherty (Pelham, N.Y.) was the Green's best in the 50 free in 21.95.

Sophomore Michael Ahern (Old Westbury, N.Y.) picked up where he left off last year, taking fourth in both the 100 backstroke in 52.98 and the 200 in 1:55.48.

Ben Reasons (Naperville, Ill.), a freshman was the top Big Green finisher in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.67, finishing eighth.  Matt Stump (Palm Harbor, Fla.) took eighth in the 200 breast in 2:19.92 with Reasons two seconds behind.

The 400 free relay team of Chang, Doherty, Scott Sorensen (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Marco Chu (Newton, Mass.) took fifth in 3:12.29, just 0.02 out of fourth. The 200 medley relay team of Ahern, Reasons, Chang and Doherty was fifth in 1:37.07.

Dartmouth took sixth through ninth in the 1000 free, led by rookie Joe Chance (Lafayette, La.) in 10:16.49 and followed by Cary Stathopolous (New York, N.Y.) in 10:25.35.

The Big Green hosts Brown and Navy next Saturday, Nov. 21 in its first home meet of the season.
