As the culminating event of this week's Spirit Week festivities, Dartmouth Athletics will host Hoops Hype tonight, Thursday, Nov. 5 at 8 pm in Leede Arena. Hoops Hype is a high-energy event designed to introduce the 2009-10 men's and women's basketball teams. In addition to player and coach intros, each team will have a short highlight video prior to their intros, and will then run a short skills exhibition.  

Hoops Hype will also feature performances by the Dartmouth Cheerleading Team, the women's basketball team and campus dance group Ujima.  Student attendees will have the opportunity to win great prizes in several contests. Prizes include a 50" flat screen TV, free textbooks for a term and a weekend trip for two to Boston to cheer on the Big Green men's basketball team as they take on Harvard on Jan. 9.  

I am so excited for this event," said women's basketball head coach Chris Wielgus. "Basketball is alive and well at Dartmouth and this is a great kick off to the season!"

As a part of Spirit Week, Hoops Hype is the climax of a week-long series of events running from Nov. 2-7 and features several events designed to generate excitement about Dartmouth athletics in general and basketball specifically. Events include open practices of both the men's and women's basketball teams.
