Ivy League Release

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Dartmouth women’s cross country team placed sixth overall at the Heptagonal Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday morning.

The Big Green ended up with a total of 167 points, while Princeton swept the first five spots to earn the team title with just 15 points. The Tigers blew away the second-place Crimson as Harvard took second with 69 points.

Sophomore Amy Schuman (Lee, N.H.) was Dartmouth’s top finisher with a 24th-place run at 18:19, while Elizabeth Short (North Reading, Mass.) wasn’t far behind in 27th with a time of 18:20.1. Freshman Kaitlin D’Orazio (York, Maine) ran in her first Heps Championship and finished 34th, crossing the line at 18:30.3.

Princeton’s Liz Costello took home her third-consecutive individual title with a time of 16:55, which was a large margin from her teammate Alex Banfich who finished at 17:12. Costello became the first women to win three-straight titles since Harvard’s Kate Wiley won in 1982, 1983 and 1984.

Dartmouth will be back in New England this coming weekend as the Big Green heads to the Coach’s Race in Boston on Nov. 13.
