Dartmouth Men Earn Third Place Finish at Heps

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Led by a ninth-place finish from junior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.), the Dartmouth men’s cross country team took home third place at the 2009 Heptagonal Championship at Van Cortlandt Park.

The Big Green finished with 90 points for third. Columbia edged out Princeton, who was going for a fourth-straight team title. The Lions earned 60 points, while the Tigers racked up a close 61 points.

Robbins was Dartmouth’s top harrier with a ninth-place finish at 25:42.4. Harvard’s Dan Chenoweth won the individual title with a time of 25:09.2. Brown had the highest number of runners in the top-10 with three, but the Bears finished fifth overall. Sophomore Ethan Shaw (Falmouth, Maine) and senior Chris Zablocki (Essex, Conn.) finished back-to-back at 16th and 17th, respectively. Shaw beat out Zablocki by three seconds with a time of 25:55.1. Zablocki clocked in at 25:58.7.

Seniors Kevin Treadway (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Alex Hall (Manchester, N.H.) finished in the top-30 as Treadway ran the course in 26:10.9 for a 22nd-place run. Hall crossed the line in his last Heps Championship in 26th with time of 26:18.3.

Dartmouth will be back in action this coming weekend at the Coach’s Race in Boston on Nov. 13.
