Ivy League Release
HANOVER, N.H. - Sophomore Kelly Hood (Berlin, N.H.) and freshman Samantha McPherson (Ventura, Calif.) both earned weekly field hockey honors with Hood taking home Ivy League Co-Player of the Week, while McPherson was named Co-Rookie of the Week.
Hood led the Big Green to two wins last week with one coming against #19 UMass and a Ivy victory over Harvard on Saturday. She posted two goals and added an assist in the 6-3 impressive win over the Minutewomen on Wednesday. Hood followed that up with a record-breaking performance at Harvard in the 5-3 win for the Big Green. Hood eclipsed the school record for points in a season in the first half on her 17th goal of the year to give her 42 points. The record of 41 was held by Kim Jenkin ‘02 and Lauren Scopaz ‘00, which came back in 1999. Also with her 17th score she is one goal away from tying Jenkin for most goals in a season.
This is the second time Hood has earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors, but the first time she has shared the honor. She was first named the top player back on Sept. 28 after setting the new Ivy League record for goals in a game with five against Brown in the Big Green’s 8-3 win.
McPherson had a great week for the Big Green as Dartmouth went 2-0. McPherson tallied three goals with two coming in a dominant performance against #19 UMass in a 6-3 win. She then added her fifth of the season in a 5-3 win over the Crimson on Saturday to help the Big Green reach four Ivy wins. She is fourth on the team in goals and leads all freshman on the Big Green with 11 points.
Dartmouth also has moved up in the national rankings and is now ranked 28th in the nation after a undefeated week and a big win over No. 19 UMass last Wednesday. The Big Green will be back at Chase Field this coming Saturday at 12 p.m. as Cornell comes to Hanover for Senior Day.
