ANNAPOLIS, Md. - College men's lacrosse coaches formally announced Tuesday the establishment of the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA).

The IMLCA was created to help build the game of lacrosse, become the premier organization providing coaches development and monitor the integrity of the game. Its membership will be comprised of individual collegiate coaches. Sharing the vision of the IMLCA are its founding sponsors Brine, DeBeer, Harrow Sports, Shamrock/Riddell Lacrosse, STX and Warrior.

"The college lacrosse community is excited about the potential that the IMLCA provides to the game," said Richie Meade, head coach at the United States Naval Academy and president of the IMLCA. "We believe that the IMLCA will be in a tremendous position to represent the college game, to foster the growth of coaching skills, and to promote the game to the community at large."

The IMLCA, which has become an affiliate of the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) for the management of its business and membership operations, also will work in concert with the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), an organization of collegiate institutions. The USILA serves the game through the management of the all-American process, the conduct of the annual North-South Senior All-Star Game and the implementation of the officiating services provided to each collegiate program.

The annual coaches clinic will be the focal point for the IMLCA to work with its membership to foster the growth of the game. The 2005 and 2006 clinics will be conducted at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront December 8-11 and December 7-10, respectively. Specific information regarding registration and vendor opportunities will be available in the near future.

Presentations during the 2005 convention are scheduled to include Kevin Corrigan (University of Notre Dame), Hank Janczyk (Gettysburg College), Richie Meade (United States Naval Academy), Jamie Munro (Denver University), Dave Pietramala (Johns Hopkins University), Tony Seaman (Towson University), Dom Starsia (University of Virginia) and Bill Tierney (Princeton University). In addition to the presentations, a recruiting round table for high school coaches will take place during the clinic.

About the IMLCA The IMLCA is a new organization formed to service the college men's lacrosse coaches. It's initial set of officers include Richie Meade, Navy (president); Fred Acee, U.S. Air Force Academy (first vice-president); Dave Cottle, University of Maryland, College Park (second vice-president); Tom Gill, United States Merchant Marine Academy (secretary); J.B. Clarke, Washington College (treasurer); Phil Buttafuoco, ECAC (assistant treasurer); Richie Moran (president emeritus).
