ANGIE HIND BIO Head Coach – Fifth Season As of May 11, 2009
As Angie Hind enters her fifth season as head coach of the Dartmouth women’s soccer team, she and the senior class complete a pivotal journey together. The Class of 2010 includes three returning All-Ivy performers and was Hind’s first recruiting class as the Big Green’s head coach.
In her four seasons as head coach, Hind has a 37-24-6 record, 16-10-2 in the Ivy League, having helped return Dartmouth soccer to the national stage. While this season is Hind’s fifth as head coach, it is her seventh in Hanover, having served as an assistant coach during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
During Hind’s four seasons as head coach, 11 Dartmouth players have earned All-Ivy accolades 18 times, five have been named All-New England and eight have earned SoccerBuzz All-Northeast honors. This past fall, 2008, Myra Sack ’10 became the third Hind-coached player to earn NSCAA All-Northeast honors and first since 2005, earning a coveted spot on the first team.
Dartmouth women’s soccer celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008 and with that came a renewed commitment to connecting current players to the rich history of the program. In addition to that initiative, Hind truly values educating the overall student-athlete, encouraging her players world-wide explorations made possible by the D-Plan.
In 2006 and 2007, Dartmouth was honored with the Team Academic Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Sack earned NSAA Scholar All-America second team honors in 2008.
During the anniversary season, 2008, Dartmouth battled to an 8-6-2 record, with four losses coming by just one goal. Impressively, the Big Green was undefeated in six overtime games on the season, winning four. Dartmouth brings back all but one of 12 different goal-scorers from that team and all four freshmen field players saw action in at least nine ganes,
Injuries to key veteran players slowed the Big Green’s progress in 2007, finishing at 5-9-2 (3-3-1 Ivy) and tying for fourth in the Ancient Eight. In 2006, Hind led Dartmouth to an impressive 12-4-1 mark (6-1 Ivy) and its return to the national rankings. That team ranked as high as 13th nationally during the season and finished the regular season ranked first in New England.
It did not take Hind long to assert herself as one of the Ivy League and Northeast’s finest coaches, leading the Big Green to a 12-5-1 mark in her first season (2005), finishing second in the league and earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to her appointment as head coach, Hind spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Big Green. In her two seasons as an assistant, Hind helped guide the team to a 16-12-6 mark. It was no coincidence that Dartmouth took home the Ivy League title and made an NCAA tournament appearance in 2003, Hind’s first season on the sideline.
“Angie has an incredible background in international coaching,” said Director of Athletics Josie Harper at the time of Hind’s hiring. “She did a superb job here for two years, doing a lot of the X’s and O’s and technique work with the kids. All the people that spoke to her were impressed with her enthusiasm, her vision for the program, her being able to articulate exact things she wanted to do.”
A native of Kilmarnock, Scotland, Hind came to Dartmouth after a five-year stint with the Scottish Football Association (SFA). As a player, Hind represented the Scottish women’s national team for three years between 1999-2002 and competed for 17 years at the junior and senior levels with F.C. Kilmarnock. She captained F.C. Kilmarnock to five Scottish League and Cup medals between 2001-03, winning every major honor in the Scottish game.
After retiring as a player from the national squad, Hind was invited onto the national coaching staff as assistant coach to the Senior ‘A’, U-19 and U-17 squads having previously served as the U-16 national coach from 1997-98.
Hind was also appointed head coach for Scotland’s largest girl’s development squad program. She coordinated, coached and selected regional squads at U-17, U-15, and U-13 age groups, guiding 18 players who were selected to Scottish national teams at youth and senior levels.
She is a Scottish Football Association “A’ license holder and also possesses the SFA Youth License and is a staff tutor for the SFA Children’s License qualification. A 1998 graduate of Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Hind received her bachelor’s degree with commendation in sport coaching and fitness.
