HANOVER, N.H. - Senior Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.) had her best weekend in a Dartmouth uniform, leading the Big Green women’s hockey team to a weekend sweep with six points and earning ECAC Hockey Player of the Week honors.
Toupal recorded a career-high four points on two goals and two assists in the Big Green’s huge win over Yale on Friday night by the score of 6-3. She got Dartmouth on track with the first two goals of the night, each coming early in the first and second periods. Toupal kept the points coming as she tallied an assist on the Big Green’s next goal that gave them a 3-1 lead, which the team would not give up. In the third period, she assisted on freshman Camille Dumais’ (Beaconsfield, Que.) second goal of the night to close out the game at 6-3.
The next night against Brown she assisted on both of the rookie’s tallies, one coming as the game-winner in a 4-2 win on senior night at Thompson. The first helper gave Dartmouth a 2-1 lead and the second got the Big Green back on top after Brown tied the game at 2-2.
With Dartmouth sweeping away its Ivy rivals, the Big Green has now moved into a tie with the Bulldogs for the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference. Dartmouth, however, would jump Yale into the playoffs because the Big Green has won both meetings this season. ECAC Hockey only allows eight teams on the women’s side to make the tournament, while all 12 teams earn postseason bids on the men’s side.
Dartmouth hits the road for the first time in a month and will look to build on four wins in the last five games as the Big Green travels to Union and Rensselaer, beginning on Friday night.
