HANOVER, N.H. - In conjunction with its home game against Hartford this Sunday, the Dartmouth women's basketball team is sponsoring a non-perishable food drive and offering free admission to senior citizens. Dartmouth is hosting both events this Sunday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. when it welcomes perennial America East contender Hartford to Leede Arena. All senior citizens, 65 and over, will be granted free admission to the game (with ID). The Big Green will also host an autograph session after the game. The non-perishable food drive is being held to benefit the Community Food Shelf at the Upper Valley Haven. The Dartmouth women's basketball team has a special place in its heart for the Haven and the work it does to support our community. The team has often spent time at the Haven mentoring, tutoring and playing with the children there. As we approach the holiday season and the winter looms, many families in our area will be looking to the Haven and its Community Food Shelf for help. We ask that you please help the Big Green to help our community by bringing non-perishable (canned, boxed) food items to the Dartmouth game on Sunday. A collection station will be conveniently located in the Leede Arena lobby. While all items are welcomed, the Haven has specific need for: holiday items (pie fillings, pie crusts, gravy, canned yams, canned vegetables); pasta and sauce; rice side dishes; single-can meals such as pastas or stews. In 2008 the Haven provided a week's worth of food on 13,512 occasions to individuals from 1,710 different families, and had 6,903 visits for bread and fresh produce.
