The Big Green basketball teams were all about double dipping this weekend. Junior forward Doreen Ariik scored a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double in a road win over the University of New Hampshire. Playing in front of hometown fans, sophomore Brandon Mitchell-Day had his first career double-double as the men’s team took Saint Louis to the wire before falling in the final seconds.
Their efforts are rewarded by being named The Richards Group Athletes of the week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Brandon Mitchell-Day, So., St. Louis, Mo., F, Men’s Basketball
Brandon Mitchell-Day posted his first-career double-double on Saturday at Saint Louis in what was a homecoming game, playing in front of many friends and family. The 6-8 graduate of Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, shattering his previous career high of six boards. He also added three assists, two steals and two blocks. Mitchell-Day scored the Big Green's first four points of the game and had 13 in the first half alone. For the game, he was efficient in shooting 6-of-8 from the floor. The effort helped Dartmouth have a chance until the final seconds against a strong Atlantic 10 opponent that won 21 games last season, with the Big Green falling, 66-65.
