ANGIE HIND BIO
Head Coach – Sixth Season
As of May 12, 2010
Angie Hind enters her sixth season as head coach of the Dartmouth women's soccer team, having filled her diverse roster with players from all over the country. Her program has consistently produced true student-athletes in every sense of the term, excelling athletically and academically. Dartmouth women's soccer celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2008 and with that came a renewed commitment to connecting current players to the rich history of the program. In addition to that initiative, Hind truly values educating the overall student-athlete, encouraging her players world-wide explorations made possible by the D-Plan. Women's soccer players have also been leaders in community service efforts at Dartmouth.
In her five seasons as head coach, Hind has a 47-31-6 record, 20-13-2 in the Ivy League, having helped return Dartmouth soccer to the national stage. While this season is Hind's sixth as head coach, it is her eighth in Hanover, having served as an assistant coach during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
During Hind's five seasons as head coach, 14 Dartmouth players have earned All-Ivy accolades 24 times, five have been named All-New England and eight have earned SoccerBuzz All-Northeast honors. Three student-athletes were named to the prestigious All-Ivy first team after the 2009 season. 2010 graduate Myra Sack was the third Hind-coached player to earn NSCAA All-Region honors, earning a spot on the first team in 2008 and third team in 2009. Sack was a finalist for the 2009 Lowe's Senior Class Award while Becky Poskin '09 was a finalist for the John Wooden Citizenship Cup.
In 2006, 2007 and 2008, Dartmouth was honored with the Team Academic Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Sack earned NSAA Scholar All-America second team honors in 2008.
Coach Hind's fifth season at the helm in 2009 saw Dartmouth go 10-7 overall including taking home the title at the Virginia Nike Classic, with a field that included the host Cavaliers as well as then #12 ranked West Virginia, who Dartmouth defeated. As a team, Dartmouth had a solid 1.15 goals against average while offering a wide range of goal-scorers on the offensive end. Chief among those was sophomore Aly O'Dea, who Hind helped develop into a nine-goal scorer in just her second season.
During the anniversary season, 2008, Dartmouth battled to an 8-6-2 record, with four losses coming by just one goal. Impressively, the Big Green was undefeated in six overtime games on the season, winning four. Injuries to key veteran players slowed the Big Green's progress in 2007, finishing at 5-9-2 (3-3-1 Ivy) and tying for fourth in the Ancient Eight.
In 2006, Hind led Dartmouth to an impressive 12-4-1 mark (6-1 Ivy) and its return to the national rankings. That team ranked as high as 13th nationally during the season and finished the regular season ranked first in New England. In her first season at the helm in 2005, it did not take Hind long to assert herself as one of the Ivy League and Northeast's finest coaches, leading the Big Green to a 12-5-1 mark, finishing second in the league and earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Prior to her appointment as head coach, Hind spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Big Green. In her two seasons as an assistant, Hind helped guide the team to a 16-12-6 mark. It was no coincidence that Dartmouth took home the Ivy League title and made an NCAA tournament appearance in 2003, Hind's first season on the sideline.
A native of Kilmarnock, Scotland, Hind came to Dartmouth after a five-year stint with the Scottish Football Association (SFA). As a player, Hind represented the Scottish women's national team for three years between 1999-2002 and competed for 17 years at the junior and senior levels with F.C. Kilmarnock. She captained F.C. Kilmarnock to five Scottish League and Cup medals between 2001-03, winning every major honor in the Scottish game.
After retiring as a player from the national squad, Hind was invited to assist the national coaching staff with the Senior 'A' and youth squads, having previously served as the U-16 national coach from 1997-98.
Hind was also appointed head coach for Scotland's largest girl's development squad program. She coordinated, coached and selected regional squads at U-17, U-15, and U-13 age groups, guiding 18 players who were selected to Scottish national teams at youth and senior levels.
She holds her UEFA 'A' license and the Youth and Children's license and previously served as a staff tutor and coach educator for the Scottish Football Association. A 1998 graduate of Strathclyde University in Glasgow, Hind received her bachelor's degree with commendation in sport coaching and fitness.
