Originally built in 1893 and completed in 1923, Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field was constructed in honor of the 112 Dartmouth men who perished in World War I. consists of a football field surrounded by a 400-meter track with throwing areas for the track team. The stadium is a brick-and-concrete structure and features black wrought-iron fencing that encloses its West Stands. A state-of-the-art FieldTurf surface was installed on Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field in 2006. The newest generation FieldTurf surface features reinforced spine monofilament, silica sand and cryogenic rubber infill that simulates natural grass. In conjunction with construction of Floren Varsity House, the upper tiers of the East Stands (about two-thirds of the 9,500 seats were removed. The remaining seats in the East Stands have been extended to match the 7,100-seat West Stands. Including temporary end-zone seating, Memorial Field has a seating capacity for about 11,000 spectators.
Lights were added to the facility in 2011, and an HD scoreboard (gifted by the Stephen Lewinstein family, Classes of 1963 and 1998) was added in 2013 at the South end of the field. Renovations to the West Stands in 2015, handled by Fleck & Lewis Architects and Engleberth Construction, preserved the classic brick exterior and the memorial for those that persihed in the war was placed underneath the stadium near the main entrance. The structural upgrades brought modern code restrictions, leading to wider aisles and concourses, wider seating — including 230 chair-back seats — plenty of handrails, modern bathrooms and an elevator that provides access to three levels of seating. The elevator also provides access to the new press box, which contains larger work spaces for the media and operations folks, more bathrooms and upgraded technology for video streaming as well as television and radio broadcasts.
Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field also includes an extensive track and field facility. The track is named for Dusty Rhodes and is a state-of-the-art, eight-lane, 400-meter urethane surface. The short side of the track is set up to run both ways in the event of wind. For field events, the facility includes four pits for the long jump and triple jump, a dual runway for the pole vault and an expansive high jump apron. The shot put and discus areas are also inside the stadium. The video scoreboard allows for immediate display of track results and allows timers to work from the press box.
The stadium was officially dedicated as Buddy Teevens Stadium at Memorial Field on October 4th, 2024.
