HANOVER, N.H. -- Freshman Andy Kempler's 22 yard field goal in overtime pushed the Dartmouth jayvee football team to a 31-28 victory over Harvard on Friday.
With the score tied, 28-28, with time expiring in the fourth quarter, Kempler lined up a 27-yard field goal, but Harvard blocked it to force overtime.
The Crimson went first, and Dartmouth's
Royce Novosel-Johnson intercepted a Harvard pass, before Kempler booted the gamewinner.
The game was a see-saw affair throughout. In the first quarter, sophomore quarterback
Mike Fritz scored on a one-yard run for a 7-0 Dartmouth lead.
After a Harvard scoring pass in the second quarter, Dartmouth junior
Jason Bash rushed for an 18-yard TD, before Harvard used a 45-yard pass and a two-point conversion for a 14-14 tie.
Dartmouth took a 21-14 lead into halftime when senior quarterback Brendan Day completed a 33-yard TD pass to sophomore Matt Whyland, and Kempler added the PAT.
In the third quarter, the Pea Green built the margin to 28-14 on another Day-to-Whyland pass, this one for three yards, before the Crimson tied it with two more touchdowns.
On the afternoon, Kempler had four PATs and one field goal.
Now 2-1 on the year, the Pea Green closes out the season on November 14 at Brown.
