Dartmouth Football Opens Spring Practice
Spring Game Set for May 1
The offense will be led by quarterback Charlie Rittgers, who stepped into the lineup three weeks into the season and became just the fifth Dartmouth quarterback to throw for 2,000 yards in a season. He'll be protected by offensive tackle Vik Tiku, who was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection. Punter Grant Wagner, an honorable mention pick, and kicker Tyler Lavin, who has booted three field goals of 50 yards or more, also return for the 2004 campaign.
Spring Game Set for May 1

HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth football team has begun its spring practice which will culminate with the annual Green-White game on Saturday, May 1, at Memorial Field.
After conducting its first three practices in just helmets, the Big Green will put on the pads for the first time on Wednesday, April 14.
"We're anxious to get going," said Head Coach John Lyons. "It is a great opportunity for our younger players to show what they can do."
Lyons welcomes back 46 letterwinners, including 19 starters, from last year's squad which finished second in the Ivy League. Six All-Ivy players will return to lead Dartmouth in 2004.
First team defensive end Ryan Conger led the team in sacks and tackles for a loss and will be joined by defensive end Anthony Gargiulo who was an honorable mention choice. Linebacker Josh Dooley and free safety Clayton Smith, both second team picks, and strong safety Chris Dodds, an honorable mention choice, will bolster a unit that should rank among the top defenses in the league.

"Clearly, we have some holes to fill," added Lyons, "particularly on offense, where we lost Casey Cramer and Jay Barnard. We need players to step up and show that they deserve playing time. This is the time to go out and win a position."
