HANOVER, N.H. -- Bridgton Academy scored a touchdown in the second overtime and then went for the two-point conversion, winning a seesaw battle, 43-42, over Dartmouth in junior varsity football action on Sunday.
After a scoreless first overtime, the Pea Green went ahead, 42-35, when sophomore quarterback Tom Bennewitz (Weston, Conn.) completed an eight-yard TD pass to sophomore wide receiver Chris Collado (Maineville, Ohio).
Trailing, 14-0, in the second quarter, Bennewitz got Dartmouth on the board with a 45-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Sam McDonald (Cincinnati, Ohio). Bridgton answered for a 21-7 lead, but on the last play of the half, freshman quarterback Casey Frost (Lawndale, Calif.) hooked up with freshman wide receiver Phil Galligan (Moraga, Calif.) on an 87-yard bomb.
On Dartmouth's first possession of the third quarter, Bennewitz found Collado on a 35-yard scoring strike. In the fourth quarter, Bennewitz scored again for the Pea Green on the quarterback keeper.
With 9:49 left in the fourth quarter, sophomore cornerback Jason Reid (Ringoes, N.J.) recovered a fumble, and Bennewitz again went to Collado, forcing the overtime with the score knotted at 35-35.
