COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Dartmouth senior Angie Soriaga returned home to College Station and led all scorers with 14 points, but it wasn't enough as the Big Green women's basketball team fell to Texas A&M, 62-47, at Reed Arena on Wednesday night. The Big Green falls to 5-2, while the Aggies improve to 7-2.
Soriaga, who attended A&M Consolidated High School, also had four assists and four rebounds. She was joined in double figures by junior Ashley Taylor (Cookeville, Tenn.), who poured in 10 points, including three consecutive three-pointers during a key stretch in the first half.
A&M was led by Takia Starks who had 12 points and Danielle Gant who added 11 points and eight boards.
The Big Green held an early 17-11 lead on the Aggies after Taylor nailed the last of her treys at the 8:43 mark. Dartmouth still held a 19-16 edge with 4:53 left in the period, but the Aggies went on an 8-2 run to grab a 24-21 halftime lead.
In the second half, the game remained close and the teams were tied at 38-38 after Soriaga hit a three-pointer at the 12:17 mark. Texas A&M proceeded to go on a 10-0 spurt and Dartmouth could get no closer than six points the rest of the way.
Dartmouth's performance was also marred by a season-high 33 turnovers which Texas A&M converted into 26 points.
The Big Green will be in action again on Thursday, December 29, when it hosts Akron in the first round of the Blue Sky Restaurant Group Classic at 7:00 p.m. Lafayette and Loyola Marymount will play in the early game at 5:00 p.m.
