HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth football team will look to edge its way into the win column as the Big Green plays host to the Crusaders of Holy Cross this Saturday for homecoming weekend.
The last time these two programs met, it was the Crusaders who prevailed as they knocked off the Big Green, 28-16, in Worcester, Mass. The last Dartmouth win over Holy Cross came in the 2003 season when the Big Green defeated the Crusaders, 24-20. Dartmouth has the historic advantage by a narrow margin, holding a 34-31-4 record over Holy Cross.
In last weekend's contest, the Big Green couldn't contain the Yale Bulldogs, as Dartmouth dropped its second Ivy League contest in a row and fourth game of the season. The Bulldogs put up 410 total yards in their 26-14 win.
“Yale's a good football team,” said head coach
Buddy Teevens after the loss. “They were a much more physical team than I anticipated and it just shows that we need to improve our physical development.”
The Big Green will look to stay strong against a Crusader offense that's averaging 360 yards per game and is looking to win its fourth game in a row on Memorial Field. The Crusaders are led by the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week in quarterback Dominic Randolph who completed 30-of-39 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns in last week's game against Brown.
“I'm very impressed with Randolph,” Teevens said. “He's athletic enough to elude pressure and make things happen for their offense.”
Dartmouth will count on senior quarterback
Mike Fritz (Houston, Texas) to keep improving the way he's done the last three games. Against the Bulldogs, Fritz completed 16-of-21 for 211 yards and two scores for the Big Green.
“We've been pleased with his percentage completion,” said Teevens. “I think he's settled in at the position. He's throwing the deep ball better than he's ever thrown it, which will become more important.
Saturday's game, kicking off at 12:30 p.m., can be heard live in Hanover on radio stations WDCR-AM (1340) and WFRD-FM (99.3) with Bob Lipman handling play-by-play and Wayne Young doing color commentary, or via the internet at www.DartmouthSportsRadio.net.
