Dartmouth Head Coach Chris Wielgus
“The defensive end is something we worked a great deal on and I thought they did a great job defensively and were able to follow the game plan. We couldn't put the ball in the ocean if we were standing on the beach. These kids persevered throughout the entire game and never gave up and we will be fine.
On offensive problems and the solution:
On missed three-pointers:
“It's not worrisome to me because I know we can shoot the three. My original game plan was not to shoot the three, but to get it inside to our post players. I changed that plan late in the game. Because they are a young team, it takes them a little bit longer to be adaptable but they followed my game plan and got it inside to our posts and did what they were told to do. Koren Schram has not played at all in the last two weeks and was just cleared to play yesterday so I sort of just threw her in there.”
On growing from the experience:
“First games are like pop quizzes, you figure out what you need to work on and you move on. This is a process, this is not something where you step on the court and abracadabra everything goes your way. It takes young people time to learn and there is nothing you can simulate in practice that compares to coming into a place like this and playing a game. This was a wonderful experience and a great environment and we are delighted to have been invited to the WNIT. We wish we had played better but we will be fine. I have enormous faith in this team.”
On the play of Kristen Craft (first collegiate start):
Kristen Craft sat behind Angie Soriaga, one of the top point guards in the country, for two years and she waited her turn and worked hard and she did a great job tonight.
Junior guard Kristen Craft
On first game with a new back court:
They didn't put too much pressure on us, I was nervous but I think we came out pretty solid right away on defense. It was fine, we played a couple of times already this year [scrimmages] so we were ready.
Junior forward Sydney Scott
On the emphasis on post play:
We play against a lot of good post players in the Ivy League and in the other big time schools that we played. Some nights our guards are challenged and nights like this our posts are challenged to make some stops and I think we did a nice job holding their top two posts to five points each.
