Dartmouth Jayvees Beat Bridgton in Overtime, 42-35
HANOVER, N.H. -- Freshman
James Lill (Hinsdale, Ill.) intercepted a pass in overtime, preserving a 42-35 victory over Bridgton Academy. It was the season finale for the Dartmouth jayvee football team that finished the season 2-2.
The game seesawed back and forth and Dartmouth went ahead for good in the first overtime when freshman quarterback
Max Heiges (Tiburon, Calif.) completed a 19-yard pass to freshman tight end
Carroll Papajohn (Gulf Breeze, Fla.). Sophomore
Chuck Zodda (Framingham, Mass.) was good on six PATs, including the one in overtime.
Bridgton's attempt to answer was snuffed out by Lill.
After trailing, 14-0, after one quarter, Dartmouth went into the break tied, 14-14, when Heiges hit freshman
Ian Ferrell (Denver, Colo.) on a 21-yard TD pass and freshman
Thomas Brown (Cos Cob, Conn.) scored on a six-yard run.
Dartmouth held a 28-21 lead after three on a pair of Alex Jenny (Wayland, Mass.) TD passes. The freshman quarterback completed a 17-yarder to Ferrell and another for 21 yards to Papajohn.
The Big Green lead was 35-27 with 3:38 to go in the fourth on a Heiges-Papajohn hookup for 18 yards, but Bridgton answered with 1:51 to go on a 36-yard bomb and two-point conversion, setting up the extra session.
