ALBANY, N.Y. - The Dartmouth men's hockey team picked up its 19th win of the season by defeating Colgate (20-13-6), 3-2, in the consolation game of the ECACHL Championships. The Big Green (19-12-2) finishes the 2005-06 season with its sixth straight winning record.
The Big Green scored three early goals to take the quick lead. Rob Pritchard (Burnaby, B.C.) put Dartmouth on the board at 3:39 of the first. Jon Grecu (Calgary, Alta.) got the puck on the blue line firing to Pritchard who shot behind Raider netminder Mark Dekanich. With 9:32 gone in the period Tanner Glass (Craven, Sask.) shot a laser that put the Big Green ahead, 2-0. Sean Offers (St. Albert, Alta.) and Mike Ouellette (Kamloops, B.C.) picked up the helpers.
Dartmouth put its final score on the board at 9:51 in the second. Offers won the puck in the circle passing to Ouellette behind the net. Ouellette shot in front of the net to a waiting David Jones (North Vancouver, B.C.) who fired top shelf on Dekanich.
Marc Fulton scored the next two goals for Colgate. The Raiders put scores on the board at 12:22 in the second and then at 15:40 in the final frame.
The Big Green outshot the Raiders 42-23, marking the third game in a row that Dartmouth has had more than 40 shots on goal. Mike Devine (Orchard Park, N.Y.) made 21 saves for the Big Green while Dekanich made 39 for Colgate becoming Colgate's all-time season leader in saves.
The win marks the second time the Big Green has won a consolation game. Dartmouth defeated Brown, 4-2, in 2002-03 and it's the first time the Big Green has defeated Colgate in the third-place game.
