Women's Hockey Settles for 5-5 Tie With Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - Dartmouth erased two, two-goal deficits with four power play goals, but it wasn't enough as the Big Green settled for a 5-5 tie with Boston University on Sunday afternoon.

The Terriers (1-4-1) got a big game from Melissa Anderson as she tallied two first period power play goals and added two assists for a four-point game. Anderson gave Boston University the early 1-0 lead, 6:21 into the game with a power play goal. She posted her second with 9:30 remaining in the period to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.

Dartmouth (1-0-1), however, answered right back with two power play goals of its own. Freshman Amanda Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) cut the lead to one with her first career goal on the power play with 14:44 left in the second. Junior Sarah Newnam (Clifton, Va.) scored her first of the season four minutes later to tie the score at 2-2.

At the 4:22 mark, Boston University went back on top at 3-2 on a goal by Amanda Shaw. Shaw had a goal and an assist in the contest.

In the third period, Laurel Koller gave the Terriers their second two-goal advantage with an unassisted goal at the 14:41 mark of the period. The Big Green once again answered with two power play goals to tie the score at 4-4. Sophomore Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) cut the deficit to 4-3 with her second of the season with the assist going to junior Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) for one of her three assists on the afternoon. Senior Amy Cobb (Edina, Minn.) got the gametying power play goal with Cunningham earning an assist.

With the momentum on the side of the Big Green, the Terriers fought back and with 8:46 remaining, Julie Poulin got the lead back for Boston University with another power play goal.

The Big Green tied the game again on Cunningham's second of the game with 1:58 left in regulation with the assist going to junior Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.). For Bronson, it was her third assist of the game, which was tied with Bowman for the team lead. The teams played a mistake-free overtime and settled for the 5-5 tie.

Dartmouth peppered Boston University goaltender Melissa Haber, but she was up to the task as Haber made a total of 50 saves between the pipes. Junior netminder Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) pushed aside 11 shots for Dartmouth.

The Big Green was 4-of-9 on the power play, while the Terriers took advantage of their opportunities with three power play goals in seven chances.

Dartmouth returns home this weekend to began its ECAC Hockey schedule against Princeton on Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4 p.m. as the Big Green faces Quinnipiac at Thompson Arena.
