HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth men's hockey team picked up a 5-1 non-conference win over the visiting Bentley Eagles on Saturday afternoon in Thompson Arena. All five Big Green goals were scored by different players as junior Dan Goulding (Toronto, Ont.) got his first career start in net making 24 saves.
Dartmouth jumped on the board early in the first period when Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.) took a shot that hit the post, squeezing between the post and the Bentley netminder's leg. Adam Estoclet (Orono, Minn.) was credited with an assist.
The Eagles tied things up with under two minutes to play in the second stanza when Tom Dickhudt and Jeff Gumaer teamed up for the strike.
The first two periods were evenly matched but the third period was all Dartmouth as the Big Green outshot Bentley 20-8 while scoring four goals in the single biggest output in a period this season.
Josh Gillam (Peterborough, Ont.) started things off with a wraparound goalier Joe Calvi's feet. J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.) assisted for his 11th point this season.
Connor Shields (Edmonton, Alta.) gave his team a two-goal lead at 4:21 after a broken play in front of Goulding allowed the netminder to shoot the puck up the middle to Rob Pritchard (Burnaby, B.C.). Pritchard got the puck to Shields in traffic for the junior's third goal of the season.
Kyle Reeds (St. Louis, Mo.) teamed up with captain Nick Johnson (Calgary, Alta.) on an empty net strike with less than a minute and a half to go before Estoclet potted his first collegiate goal at 19:29 with assists going to linemates Matt Reber (Edina, Minn.) and Fleming.
The win moves Dartmouth to 4-3-1 while Bentley falls to 5-8-1. In net for the Eagles, Calvi recorded 39 saves as the Big Green had its second 40-shot game with 44 shots on net.
The Big Green will be back in action on Dec. 1 in an ECAC Hockey game at Harvard.
