SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Despite garnering a season-high 56 shots on the net the Dartmouth women's hockey team was only able to net two goals, defeating Union, 2-0, on Friday at Messa Rink. The win improves the Big Green to 8-2-1 overall and 6-2-0 in ECAC Hockey action. Union falls to 1-12-0, 0-5-0 in the league.
Outshooting Union, 29-2, the Big Green jumped on the board with under three minutes remaining in the opening period when Nicole Ruta (Pickering, Ont.) teamed up with Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.) and Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.) for a Dartmouth power play strike.
A scoreless second period had the Big Green outshooting the Dutchwomen but neither team was able to get one in the back of the net. After having three shots on goal in the game, Larissa Roche (Thorhild, Alta.) finally broke through with one that counted at 18:36 of the third to give Dartmouth a two-goal lead. Ruta assisted for her second double-figure scoring game of the year.
The shutout was Big Green netminder's Carli Clemis' (Taber, Alta.) second of the season and seventh of her career as the junior recorded nine saves Lundy Day recorded a season-high 54 saves for the Dutchwomen.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow night, taking on Rensselaer at 7:00 p.m. at Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y.
