Schram's Hot Hand Leads Dartmouth Past Delaware, 48-41

Hanover, N.H. ? Junior guard Koren Schram (Batesville, Ark.) scored 23 of Dartmouth's 48 points to lead her team to a much-needed 48-41 victory over Delaware this evening in the consolation game of the 2007 Blue Sky Classic.

The Big Green improves to 2-9 while the Blue Hens drop to 1-11 on the season.

Schram, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, led all scorers with 23 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Senior forward Sydney Scott (Houston, Texas) crashed the boards for Dartmouth, pulling down 13 and adding six points. Sophomore guard Betsy Williams (Norwich, Vt.) continued her solid weekend with nine points and four rebounds.

Senior guard Kyle DeHaven led the Blue Hens with a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds along with six steals.

Dartmouth got off to a rocky start in the contest turning the ball over seven times in the first seven minutes to trail 9-0 at 13:22 after a pair of free-throws by DeHaven. Schram and Williams answered for Dartmouth, hitting back-to-back triples to make it 9-6 at 12:26.

The Big Green buckled down to go on an 8-3 run capped by a Schram three-ball to take a 14-12 lead at 7:27. The teams traded buckets for the balance of the half and Delaware took a 21-18 lead with two minutes left in the period. Williams helped Dartmouth rally, scoring four-straight points to give her team a 22-21 halftime advantage.

Dartmouth got back to work right away in the second with a Schram triple to open the half followed by a layup by Brittney Smith (Fort Worth Texas) to take the 27-21 lead at 17:54. Delaware rallied, going on a 7-0 run to take a 28-27 advantage at 15:06 after a Corinthia Benison jumper.

Kristen Craft (Marshalltown, Iowa) hit a jumper to regain the Dartmouth lead but Delaware would not go away, matching each Big Green bucket to take a 41-38 lead at the 4:38 mark.

The Big Green showed their determination in the final 4:38, holding Delaware scoreless for the rest of the game while Scott and Schram delivered the final nine points to take the 48-41 victory.

For the second game in a row Dartmouth outrebounded its opponent, 41-36. The Big Green shot better from three-point range, 30.4 percent, than it did overall at just 27.7 percent.

Dartmouth is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when it heads to arch-rival Harvard to open the Ivy League slate at 6:00 p.m.
