SACRAMENTO, Calif. ? In Thursday's action at the NCAA Track and Field Championship, Dartmouth juniors
Ben True (No. Yarmouth, Maine) and
Tyler Koskenoja (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) both fared well.
True earned a spot in the finals of the 1,500 meters with his time of 3:42.68 in his section, placing fifth. Running what Dartmouth coach
Barry Harwick called "a smart and controlled race," True came through the 1,200 meters in 3:01 and then closed hard to insure his spot in the finals.

In the grueling decathlon which was contested on Wednesday and Thursday, Koskenoja finished 19th. He was seeded 25th of the 26 entries coming into the meet, "and competed well to improve on that standing," said Harwick.
Koskenoja's best event was the 1,500, which concluded the two days of competition. He won his section in the personal best time of 4:21 and finished with a 10-event score of 7,065.
CBS will televise the final day of the championships live on Saturday from 1 to 3 pm on the East Coast. Although coverage is not guaranteed, the men's 1,500 begins at 2:10 Eastern time and True -- who is competing in his seventh NCAA championship -- could be seen on national television.
