Hanover, N.H. - The Dartmouth College women's basketball and ice hockey teams will be lending their support to the fight against cancer during their games on Friday and Saturday, February 8-9.
For Saturday's games, the Dartmouth athletic department is offering free admission to all staff members of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center (Lebanon, N.H.) and their families as a thank you for their efforts to prevent and treat cancer.
During the women's hockey games against RPI on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7:00 p.m. and against Union on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 4:00 p.m., Dartmouth and ECAC Hockey will be teaming up with the American Cancer Society to benefit Coaches vs. Cancer. The Big Green will be wearing pink jerseys on the ice on Friday night in an effort to raise awareness for the fight against cancer. Following the game, each pink jersey worn by the players will be auctioned off online with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Fans will be able to access the link to place their bid through the ECAC Hockey women's site at www.ecachockey.com.
The women's basketball team hosts Ivy foe Yale on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Leede Arena. Dartmouth is one of over 600 schools already signed up to participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's "Think Pink" initiative from Feb. 8-17 to promote breast cancer awareness. The WBCA began "Think Pink" in 2006-07 with more than 120 schools unifying for the effort in its inaugural year. Dartmouth's players will wear special pink shooting shirts during pre-game warm-ups and pink shoelaces during the competition. Coaches and staff will wear pink clothing and ribbons to show support for the cause and fans are encouraged to do the same.
