HANOVER, N.H. - Forward Jon Grecu (Calgary, Alta.) provided the theatrics for the Dartmouth men's hockey team as the senior potted the tying goal with :01 left in regulation as the Big Green tied American International in nonleague action on Sunday in Thompson Arena.
AIC's Tom Mele spotted the visitors a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game as Dartmouth netminder Joe Grossman made the initial save on Chris Campanale's shot but Mele was there to bury the rebound.
Less than three minutes later the Big Green tied the contest as Andrew Owsiak (Moose Jaw, Sask.) took two shots on net before Josh Gillam (Peterborough, Ont.) was able to put the puck past Yellow Jacket goalie Dan Ramirez.
Grecu gave his team a one-goal lead at 17:19 of the second period on a bing-bang-boom play. Evan Stephens (Bessemer, Mich.) brought the puck down passing to J.T. Wyman (Wayzata, Minn.) who was waiting on the left side of the net. Wyman pulled Ramirez to the left before passing across to Grecu who buried the puck in the right side.
Campanale and Greg Genovese each scored in the third period as the Yellow Jackets took a 3-2 lead on the home team. Genovese gave his team the lead with less than two minutes to play but as the seconds ticked away Grecu backhanded the puck into the net as he was falling to the ice, giving Dartmouth its second overtime game of the season.
With 41 shots on net Dartmouth outshot its first team since Nov. 24. AIC had 28 shots on goal as both teams went scoreless on the power play. Grossman finished with 24 saves as Ramirez had 36.
The Big Green is now finished with its nonconference schedule as Dartmouth will travel to league opponents Yale and Brown this weekend.
