HANOVER, N.H. - With 2:12 showing in the overtime period, Vermont's Justin Milo stole the game from
the Dartmouth men's hockey team with a heartbreaking game winning goal. Joe Stejskal (Grand Rapids, Minn.) netted the tying goal for the Big Green late in the third but it was not enough as Dartmouth falls to 0-2 on the season. Vermont improves to 3-2-1.
The Catamounts jumped on the board quickly, potting the first two goals of the game. Matt Marshall scored at 8:07 followed by Corey Carlson at 10:17. Despite being down by two goals, the Big Green outshot the Cats, 12-10.
Adam Estoclet (Orono, Minn.) got the Big Green on the board with 20 seconds left in the opening stanza. Connor Goggin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) took a shot on net that had the rebound coming directly out front to a waiting Estoclet for the put-back. Doug Jones (Marietta, Ga.) notched his first collegiate point with an assist.
The second period didn't have either team scoring a goal but there was plenty of excitement. Joe Gaudet (Etna, N.H.) rung one off crossbar while the Cats tried to convert their one power-play chance along with several odd-man rushes.
The third period was much like the second as most of the frame had both sides with plenty of chances. Stejskal was able to convert a power play opportunity for the tying goal with under three minutes left in the contest. Josh Gillam (Peterborough, Ont.) brought the puck down passing to Stejskal at the left of the net. The sophomore defenseman then brought the puck around, wrapping it just around the inside of the left post. Estoclet also picked up an assist.
The overtime stanza was all the visitors, as Vermont had two shots on net before finally knotting their first overtime goal of the season. The Big Green outshot the Cats, 33-28. Dan Goulding (Toronto, Ont.) in net for Dartmouth made 20 saves while Rob Madore made 31 saves for Vermont.
Dartmouth will be back in action next weekend, traveling to Albany for a pair of ECAC Hockey contests. The Green will take on Union on Friday and then Rensselaer on Saturday. Game time for both days is 7:00 pm.
