HANOVER, N.H. - After clinching a spot in the ECAC Hockey playoffs last weekend, the Dartmouth women's hockey team will be back on the road as the Big Green travels to Quinnipiac and Princeton in an important weekend trip.
LAST TIME OUT
The Big Green went 1-0-1 for the second weekend in a row with a 1-1 tie with Rensselaer on Friday night at the Pink at the Rink, while earning a 4-1 win on Senior Night against Union on Saturday afternoon. Juniors Julia Bronson and Maggie Kennedy led the offensive attack for Dartmouth as Bronson netted a career-high two goals in the win over Union, while Kennedy added four assists in the two games. With the tie on Friday night, the Big Green is now tied for the most in program history and it played in its seventh overtime contest, which is a new program record. With the win on Saturday afternoon, the Big Green will be making its 17th straight appearance in the ECAC Hockey Tournament.
PINK AT THE RINK
For the first time in program history, Dartmouth wore pink jerseys last weekend. In a partnership between ECAC Hockey and the American Cancer Society, all ECAC Hockey schools will be wearing pink to promote awareness in the Coaches vs. Cancer promotion. All jerseys worn last Friday night are being auctioned off online at www.ecachockeycoachesvscancer.com to benefit the American Cancer Society.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats are currently 5-20-5 overall with a 2-12-4 mark in ECAC Hockey play. They are coming off a three-point weekend with a 5-4 win over Brown on Friday and a 3-3 tie with Yale on Saturday night.
Quinnipiac has six skaters with double-digit points this season with junior Elysa Cole leading the way with a team-high 19 points. She is tied for eighth in the conference with 13 goals, including four on the power play, to go with her six assists. Sophomore Kallie Flor and freshman Brandice Moniz are both second on the team with 15 points with Moniz passing out a team-high 11 helpers.
The special teams for the Bobcats have struggled as they are 11th in both categories in ECAC Hockey play. On the power play, Quinnipiac has 15 goals in 147 chances for a 10.2 percent success rate. The Bobcats have given opponents 190 chances on the man advantage and they have scored 43 power play goals to pull Quinnipiac's penalty kill percentage down to 77.4 percent.
In net, the Bobcats are very young with three freshmen. Jamie Miller has started 22 games and has a 3-15-4 record. She has recorded a 3.39 goals against average and a .888 save percentage, giving up 73 goals in 1290 minutes of ice time.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the sixth meeting between these two schools with the Big Green holding a 4-0-1 advantage. The lone tie came on Feb. 10, 2006, while this season Dartmouth pounded the Bobcats with an 8-1 win.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Princeton is currently 12-8-5 and 10-6-2 in ECAC Hockey play, which puts the Tigers only one point behind the Big Green in the race for home ice. Princeton is on a six-game unbeaten streak and has only lost one game in its last 11 contests.
Leading the late season charge is senior Marykate Oakley, who is the team leader with 28 points, including 20 assists which is sixth in the conference. Six of her eight goals this year have been on the power play. Senior Brittany Salmon and freshman Sasha Sherry are both tied for second with 19 points with Sherry adding 14 assists. Junior Annie Greenwood has the team lead in goals with 11, including six on the man advantage.
Princeton's current unbeaten streak can be attributed to its defense. The Tigers are third in ECAC Hockey in scoring defense, allowing 1.92 goals per game.
