Women's Tennis Extends Streak to Five With Win Over Army

HANOVER, N.H. - The No. 51 Dartmouth women's tennis team lifted its record to 12-1 with a 7-0 victory over Army at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion this afternoon. The 16-6 Black Knights had been riding a 9-match win streak until falling 6-1 to Brown yesterday in Providence. The match puts Dartmouth at a five-game winning streak going into Ivy League Play next week.

Dartmouth won the doubles point, sweeping all three matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles. Senior tri-captain Maggie Suydam (Marblehead, Mass.) and freshman Georgiana Smyser (Houston, Texas) cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles, and sophomores Jesse Adler (Winnetka, Ill.) and Mary Beth Winingham (Carmel, Ind.) clinched the point with an 8-5 victory at No. 2. Senior tri-captain Megan Zebroski (Port Washington, N.Y.) and freshman Molly Scott (Trabuco Cyn, Calif.) made it a sweep for the Big Green with an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Scott handed Army freshman Anne Houghton only her fifth loss of the spring. Houghton, who pushed Brown's No. 1 player to three sets yesterday, won the first set against Scott in a tiebreaker, but Scott roared back to win the second 6-1and the third set super-breaker 10-3.

Zebroski and Winingham won handily at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions respectively, with Zebroski dropping just three games and Winingham only one. Adler won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 over Kristin Beehler, who got Army's lone win over Brown yesterday. Smyser cruised 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5, while fellow freshman Ryan Reichel (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Big Green return to action against Columbia on Friday, April 4, at 3 p.m. at the Boss Tennis Center and Gordon Pavilion.
