BOSTON - The Dartmouth women's swimming and diving team ended a full weekend
with a close loss to Boston University, 166.5 - 125.5, this afternoon in the Terriers
pool. The Big Green falls to 1-6 with the loss.
Anna Sonstegard (Sioux Falls, S.D.) had a trio of second place finishes including the marathon 1000 freestyle in 10:38.78, the 500 freestyle in 5:14.74 and the 100 individual medley in 1:04.24. Maddie Steiner (Dallas, Texas) won that race in 1:02.89 with Galen Barry (Wayne, Pa.) and Caitlin Keenan (Encitas, Calif.) completing the sweep in third and fourth, respectively. Steiner also took second in the 100 and 200 freestyles in 54.52 and 1:55.95, respectively.
Barry took second in the 50 backstroke in 29.20 and Hillary Preston (Medina, Wash.) was just behind her in 29.23. Barry finished third in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.35. Caitlin Nicholson (Ithaca, N.Y.) finished second in the 100 butterfly in 59.70 and senior Heather Jankins (Raynham, Mass.) took second in the 50 freestyle with freshman Elizabeth Kamai (Corte Madera, Calif.) close behind in 25.13.
The Big Green swept the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Jankins, Kamai, Nicholson and Steiner taking first in 1:38.82.
Freshman Erica Serpico (Moorestown, N.J.) won again in the 3 meter dive with 287.40 at the head of a dominating performance by the Big Green. Sophomore Bridget Duffey (Boxford, Mass.) took second with 260.4 and junior Kathleen Brady (Upland, Calif.) was just behind her scoring 246.15 points. Serpico took second in the 1 meter dive with 302.03 points while Duffy took third with 276.08 points.
Dartmouth heads to instate rival New Hampshire this Wednesday at 6 p,m. before resuming Ivy competition at power Princeton on Sunday, Jan. 25.
