PRINCETON, N.J. - The Dartmouth (0-4, 0-4 ECAC) men's hockey team played a fairly even game with Princeton (3-2, 2-1) on Friday evening at Hobey Baker Rink but it was the Tigers that came away with the 2-1 overtime victory.
Princeton got on the board first in the waning minutes of the first period. Matt Arhontas took a shot on net, pulling Big Green netminder Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ont.) to the left and leaving the net open. Despite both Joe Stejskal (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and Troy Mattila (Rockford, Ill.) in the net trying to keep the puck out, Mike Krameri was there for the putback and the goal.
With not a lot offense to speak of in the second period, the Big Green finally got its chance as the Tigers had to send a player to the box with just :42 left in the frame. Scott Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.) won the faceoff on the left side circle, passing to Andrew Owsiak (Moose Jaw, Sask.) behind the net. Estoclet got the puck out to Kyle Reeds (St. Louis, Mo.) who took a shot on net that was saved out to Fleming who put the puck in between goalie Alan Reynolds outstretched leg at the right side post.
Early in the last period of play Princeton had what looked like the go-ahead but it was waived off. Both sides had several good looks at the net but the netminders for both were up to the challenge. Despite the offense generated neither could break the tie as the game went into overtime.
Just a minute into the overtime frame, Connor Goggin (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) had a wraparound that was saved out to Jody Pederson. He took the puck and passed to MacIntyre right in front of the net. MacIntyre's wrister skirted O'Neill's glove as the Tigers came away with the victory.
O'Neill (0-4) finished with 39 saves as Reynolds (2-0) ended with 23.
The Big Green will be back in action tomorrow night, traveling to Quinnipiac for a 7:00 pm matchup.
