HANOVER, N.H. – The Ivy League released its annual list of student-athletes selected for Academic All-Ivy honors in fall sports and the Big Green had 10 starters or key reserves on a varsity team that were given the honor.
Each fall student-athlete that makes a major contribution on their team and is able to maintain a 3.0 grade point average is eligible for Academic All-Ivy honors. Dartmouth had four seniors and juniors on the list, while two sophomores jumped on the squad.
First up for the Big Green is junior Tanner Scott (Kenilworth, Ill.), a wide receiver on the Dartmouth football team. The economics major led team with 45 receptions and 510 receiving yards, plus caught three touchdowns. His 45 catches ranked seventh in the Ivy League while his 510 yards put him eighth. He was the only Big Green player to post a 100-yard receiving game this year, accomplishing the feat twice.
Senior Morgan Covington (Katy, Texas) of the women's volleyball team appeared on the team for the first time. The psychology major led the Big Green in blocks and finished her career fourth all-time in blocks as well.
An environmental earth sciences major and member of the men's cross country team, junior Tom Robbins (Evanston, Ill.) made the academic squad for the first time. Robbins earned second team All-Ivy honors by finishing ninth at Heps, leading Dartmouth to a third-place finish. He is also a standout on the track team as he earned second team All-Ivy in outdoor track in the 1500 meters.
Women's cross country sophomore Amy Schuman (Lee, N.H.) was the first of the second-year athletes to earn the honor. She has not declared a major yet as a Dartmouth student and led Dartmouth at Heps by finishing 24th with a time of 18:19 to help the Big Green finish sixth.
Senior Derek Stenquist (Hudson, Mass.) was the men's soccer representative after playing in the final 13 games of the season and earning seven starts down the stretch. The biology major appeared in three NCAA Tournaments in his four years in Hanover.
Next up is senior Carley Markovitz (South Pasadena, Calif.) of the women's tennis team. She posted a victory at the National Tennis Center Invitational and earned two wins in both doubles and singles at the Big Green Invite. Markovitz is majoring in government and plans to be a contributor for the Big Green in the upcoming spring campaign.
The other tennis player on the list is men's tennis junior Curtis Roby (New York, N.Y.). He advanced to the finals of the Big Green Invite and earned victories at the Wilson/ITA Regionals and Harvard Invitational. Roby has been a major player for Dartmouth in both singles and doubles since he arrived on campus.
An undeclared student-athlete and member of the women's soccer team, Aly O'Dea (Irvine, Calif.) joins the other nine Big Green athletes. O'Dea was named honorable mention All-Ivy as she ranked third in the conference in scoring with 19 points, including a team-high nine goals.
Joining Robbins from the men's cross country team was senior Chris Zablocki (Essex, Conn.), who was the Big Green's top runner at NCAA Regionals at Indiana State, finishing 14th at 31:24. Like Robbins, he will be counted on for the upcoming track season.
Rounding out the list for Dartmouth was field hockey junior co-captain Virginia Peisch (Koenigstein, Germany). Peisch earned first-team All-Ivy honors for the second consecutive year, scoring 21 points with a team-best 15 assists. Her 21 points was a career high and she missed her own single season record by one assists. In a 8-3 win over Brown on Sept. 26, she tied an Ivy League single-game record with four assists.
