Abuhoff Selected for All-New England FCS Team

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth sophomore Shawn Abuhoff (Hialeah, Fla.) was named as the return specialist for the FCS All-New England Team as chosen by the New England Football Writers. The team is selected from the 13 FCS schools in the New England region, and of the 30 members listed, 28 are seniors, one is a junior and Abuhoff is the lone sophomore.

Abuhoff was one of the top return men in the Ivy League, ranking second in the conference (and 18th nationally) in kickoff return average at 25.25 yards with a long of 58 yards. As a punt returner, he was just one return shy of qualifying for the national rankings, but would be 24th among FCS punt returners with an average of 8.64 yards with a long of 39. All told, Abuhoff recorded 600 return yards and ranked 12th in the Ivy League in all-purpose yardage. His main duties with the Big Green, however, was as a cornerback, picking off three passes during the season while currently ranking fifth in the nation in passes defended with 14 in 10 games.

The team will be honored at the annual New England Football Writers Captains and Awards Banquet on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Casa Di Fior in Wilmington, Mass.
