HANOVER, N.H. - Colgate exacted revenge from a 1-0 loss to Dartmouth earlier this season with the same score in a victory over the Big Green on Saturday in Thompson Arena. The Raiders David McIntyre was the lone scorer as he tallied the game winner at 6:19 of the third period. The loss drops Dartmouth to 13-9-3 overall, 10-6-2 in the ECAC. Colgate improves to 9-16-5, 4-11-3.
Colgate broke through when McIntyre got a breakaway as he fired on Dartmouth netminder Jody O'Neill (Nepean, Ont.).
Dartmouth pressured early as both Josh Gillam (Peterborough, Ont.) and Rob Pritchard (Burnaby, B.C.) tried to get their team on the board early in the first period as Pritchard shot wide of the empty net as Gillam's shot was saved.
Adam Estoclet (Orono, Minn.) and Connor Shields (Edmonton, Alta.) tried to connect for the go-ahead but were unable to score. Danny Markowitz (Jericho, N.Y.) also attempted one for the Big Green after he got the puck out front and attempted to sweep it around and in but the Raiders' netminder Charles Long made a diving leap backwards to prevent the score.
Traffic in front of the Colgate net had both Matt Reber () and Troy Mattila () getting shots off but unable to find the back of the net as the two teams were scoreless after one.
To start the second Colgate was able to get some shots off during their second power play opportunity of the game but O'Neill and the Dartmouth penalty killers were up to the challenge.
The Big Green's second power play chance had Pritchard with a great look on Long but the Colgate netminder got just enough of it to prevent the goal.
Late in the frame, Pritchard and Kyle Reeds (St. Louis, Mo.) had an odd-man rush on Long. Pritchard got the shot off but Long again had to make an acrobatic save to prevent the score as the two sides remained scoreless through two.
Midway through the third Colgate's Tom Riley gave the visitors a chance at a score when he skated in one-on-one with O'Neill but the Dartmouth goalie made the great stop.
Gillam had a point blank shot with under 6:00 to play in the contest as Long made the save out to Reber who was able to put another shot on net that the Colgate goalie was able to stop.
Earlier this season O'Neill had his first collegiate shutout against Colgate but tonight it was Long who finished with 28 saves. O'Neill had 24. Colgate managed to block 28 of Dartmouth's shots as the BIg Green barely outshot the Raiders, 28-25.
Dartmouth will be back in action next weekend with its last road trip of the season. The Big Green will travel to the North Country of New York for matchups with Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
