HANOVER, N.H. ? The Dartmouth men's hockey team had several players honored by the Ivy League coaches as Jody O'Neill was named the Rookie of the Year, Dartmouth's first such honor since Nick Johnson '08 in 2005. Sophomore Scott Fleming earned first team honors and Evan Stephens was named honorable mention along with freshman Doug Jones and O'Neill.
O'Neill (Nepean, Ont.) became Dartmouth's starter in net early in
the season as the rookie has appeared in 28 games and finished the
regular season with a 14-11-3 record. He's third in the Ivy League in
both goals against average and save percentage. He notched seven games with 40 or more saves including 53 against Ivy foe Yale. O'Neill had three shutouts this season with two of them coming against Princeton. He had the second highest winning percentage in the Ivy League as Dartmouth finished second out of the six Ivy schools. O'Neill is the first Big Green goalie to win a Rookie of Player of the Year award in the Ivy League.
Fleming (Plainfield, Ont.) was named first team, the sixth Big Green player in the row to earn first team honors. Fleming finished the regular season first in the Ivy League in goal scoring and ninth in overall point scoring. The sophomore forward is third on the team in scoring with 23 points, eclipsing last season's total of 11. His 11 goals lead the Big Green as he's the only player to be in double-figures for both goals and assists. The award is Fleming's first.
Defenseman Stephens (Bessemer, Mich.) earns his second All-Ivy honors after being named honorable mention. Stephens was second team last season. The sophomore is currently Dartmouth's top scoring defenseman as he's notched 18 points this year and is just four points away from his career total of 22. He finished the regular season first in the Ivy League for defenseman scoring and was second in ECAC Hockey.
Rookie sensation Jones (Marietta, Ga.) has been tops on the team in scoring most of the season. He's currently second with 28 points and has led the ECAC for rookie scorers most of the year. He's third in the ECAC for assist scoring and is sixth in the Ivy League for overall scoring. Jones is currently third nationally for all freshman scorers. Jones had a team-high 14-game scoring streak going for most of the season as he's potted at least a point in 26 of Dartmouth's games this season.
