Sixteen Women's Hockey Skaters Receive ECAC Hockey All-Academic Honors

HANOVER, N.H. - The Dartmouth women's hockey team was well represented on the 2008-09 ECAC Hockey All-Academic team as 16 of its players were recognized for academic achievement.

In total, 144 student-athletes representing the ECAC Hockey's 12 women's programs were named to the team. Eighty-seven of this year's student-athletes were also named to the team last year and 46 have the distinction of receiving the honor the last three seasons. Of the 12 institutions, Yale leads the way with 21 honorees, followed by Rensselaer with 18, and Dartmouth and Harvard with 16.

Players are eligible for the All-Academic team if they earn a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or have a GPA over 3.00 over the past three semesters.

Seniors Julia Bronson (Arlington, Va.), Carli Clemis (Taber, Alta.) and captain Sarah Newnam (Clifton, Va.) led the cast as three-time members of the academic squad, while other three-year members included juniors Sarah Parsons (Dover, Mass.), Jenna Cunningham (Medicine Hat, Alta.) and Sarah Toupal (White Bear Lake, Minn.).

Dartmouth also had many players selected to the team for the second time. Seniors Katie Gray (Calgary, Alta.) and Marley McMillan (St. Paul, Minn.) both made their second-straight appearance and they were joined by juniors Sarah Kennedy (Jasper, Alta.) and Sue Schmitz (Brookfield, Wis.). Also making the list as two-year honorees were sophomores Alyssa Boehm (Waterford, Conn.), Larissa Roche (Thorhild, Alta.) and Katie Horner (Brooklyn Park, Minn.).

Senior captain Shannon Bowman (Leamington, Ont.) made the list as a first-time member, along with freshmen Jenna Hobeika (Alpine, N.J.) and Moira Scanlon (Chicago, Ill.).

The Big Green closed out its season with a 20-10-4 record and a 13-5-4 mark in ECAC Hockey play. Dartmouth made its seventh NCAA tournament appearance after winning its fourth ECAC Hockey tournament title.
