Demment
came to Dartmouth in 1990 as our assistant men's hockey coach, then
served as
our head men's hockey coach from 1991-1997.
Since that time, he has served as Senior Associate Athletic
Director for Physical Education and Recreation.
In this role, he manages and oversees Dartmouth's physical
education program
(90 classes per term), 34 club sports (1,250 student-athletes), 20
intramural
activities (5,000 participants), and the Fitness & Lifestyle
Improvement
Program (FLIP), which offers 55 fitness classes annually to 3,300
students,
faculty/staff, and community members.
After graduating from Yale, Demment spent seven years as a player-coach in the French National Hockey League and was regional program director for French Ministry of Youth and Sport. He returned to the US to pursue graduate work in exercise physiology at the University of Wisconsin while working in a cardiac rehab program and in newly created sports medicine center. He then moved to Southborough, MA to teach biology and physiology and coach boys' hockey at St. Mark's School before heading north to Hanover. Roger is married to Christine, a psychologist, and has two children, Christa Demment Gonzalez (33) and Eric (31).
