
Smith, Walsh Named Cross High Performance Athletes of the Week

HANOVER, N.H. - It was a week full of wins for Dartmouth women's basketball and men's hockey and Brittney Smith (Fort Worth, Texas) and Nick Walsh (Shannonville, Ont.) stood out amongst great team efforts to earn Cross High Performance Athlete of the Week honors.
Smith recorded her 26th and 27th career double-doubles in wins over Vermont and Bryant, averaging 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists for the Big Green. Walsh helped men's hockey sweep Ivy rival Harvard with five points including his first career hat trick.
Dartmouth Female Athlete of the Week:
Brittney Smith (Fort Worth, Texas), Women's Basketball, Senior, Forward
Senior forward Brittney Smith got the job done on both ends of the court to
lead the women's basketball team to its first two wins of the season. Overall,
she averaged 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists in two
victories. Smith shot a staggering 60 percent from the floor and only committed
two turnovers while playing 34.5 minutes per game. Against Vermont, Smith
cruised to 21 points and dished out three assists while terrorizing the
Catamounts with a career-high seven steals. At Bryant, Smith battled through an
extremely physical game to come out with her 20 points and 13 rebounds, also
adding two assists and two steals. After struggling from the free throw line
during regulation, Smith helped seal the win in extra time by going 5-of-6 at
the stripe and grabbing three boards. Smith was also named the Ivy League
Player of the Week.
Dartmouth Male Athlete of the Week:
Nick Walsh (Shannonville Ont.), Men's Hockey, Junior, Forward
Nick Walsh had a great two games against league foe Harvard,
with five points last week. In the first game against the Crimson, he recorded
his first collegiate hat trick while also scoring an assist. In the second
period, Walsh began his scoring with an assist on the first goal before scoring
one of his own giving the Big Green a three-goal lead. In the third, his final
tally was a power play strike that gave Dartmouth the 8-2 final score. The next
night, his goal at 17:27 of the first period proved to be the game winner as
the Big Green recorded three goals in less than a minute and a half to give
Dartmouth an early 4-0 lead. Walsh is currently second on the team in scoring
with 10 points.
