Graduating men's soccer senior Derek Stenquist was honored with Dartmouth's prestigious Barrett All Around Achievement Cup at the 2010 Senior Class Day Exercises prior to Commencement this past weekend.
As its name implies, the Barrett All-Round Achievement Cup is awarded annually to that man in the Senior Class who shows the greatest promise of becoming a factor in the outside world through strength of character and qualities of leadership, record of scholarship and broad achievement, and influence among his fellows. A gift of John Barrett 1889, the Cup was first awarded in 1914.
A native of Hudson, Mass., Stenquist was an absolute standout citizen during his four years at Dartmouth, contributing both on campus and beyond. On the field, Stenquist was a four-year contributor for the men's soccer team, winning an Ivy League Championship in 2008 and making three trips to the NCAA Tournament.
A biology major active in community service, Stenquist's causes include SEAD, Special Olympics and service in Honduras and Nicaragua. At Dartmouth, he has won the Class of 1948 Scholar Athlete Award, the Athletics Class of 1950 Award for outstanding commitment to community service and the soccer team's Norman Grant Clark Trophy for contributions on and off the field.
Stenquist was also honored this year as a Class Marshal for the 2010 Commencement, serving as the bearer of the Dartmouth College flag. More information about his contributions to the Dartmouth Community can be seen in a profile here.
