The Dartmouth men's soccer team (6-4-2, 3-1-0 Ivy League) will close out
the home non-conference slate when it welcomes Colgate to Burnham Field for a
Tuesday (Oct. 25) contest. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Burnham Field. For the
weekend, the Big Green will hit the road for an Ivy League contest against
regional rival, Harvard on Saturday (Oct. 29). Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
at Harvard's Soldier Field Stadium.
BIG GREEN TIDBITS
Burnham Magic - The Dartmouth men's soccer team closes a two-game homestand against Colgate on Tuesday (Oct. 25). The Big Green play well at home and currently have a 5-1-1 record at the friendly-confines of Burnham Field. Dartmouth is undefeated in its last six outings on its home field.
Final Non-Conference Match up at Burnham - The Big Green concludes its home non-conference slate against Colgate on Tuesday (Oct. 25). Dartmouth has a 5-1-1 record at Burnham Field and with a win will move the Big Green to 4-1-1 in non-conference action at Burnham Field this season. Dartmouth closes out the non-conference schedule with a road game at rival, New Hampshire, on Nov. 1.
Dartmouth Second In Ivy League Standings - After a 2-0 win over Columbia on Saturday, the Big Green are tied for second place in the Ivy League standings with Yale. The Big Green and Bulldogs each sport 3-1-0 Ivy League records. Dartmouth has Ivy League games remaining with league leader, Cornell as well as Harvard and Brown. The Big Green will host Cornell on Nov. 5 and travel to Harvard and Brown.
Big Green in Hunt for Ivy League Title - With three Ivy League games remaining and sitting in second place in the Ivy League standings, Dartmouth is still in the hunt for its 16th Ivy League title and the first since the 2008 season.
Dzierzawski Named to Ivy League Honor Roll - Junior midfielder Kevin Dzierzawski (Oakland Township, Mich.) earned a spot on the Ivy League honor roll after his second multiple-assist game against Columbia (Oct. 22). Dzierzawski has a team-leading seven assists and has nine points in Dartmouth's last six games. He also recorded multiple assists in Dartmouth's win over Princeton (Oct. 1).
Murray Picks up Goal - Freshman midfielder Patrick Murray (Lakewood, Ohio) picked up his third goal of the season in Dartmouth's win over Columbia (Oct. 22). His three goals are good for second-best on the Dartmouth team and his six points is also third-best on the team.
Teo Finds the Net - Junior defender Teo Larsson-Sax (Kalmar, Sweden) scored his first goal of the season against Columbia (Oct. 22). It is the second goal this season by a Dartmouth defender as senior captain Nick Pappas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) has also scored a goal this season.
Big Green Pick up Win No. 500 - The Dartmouth men's soccer team picked up the program's 500th victory with its 2-1 win over Penn (Oct. 15). Currently, the Big Green has a 501-447-109 all-time record. Dartmouth is one of four Ivy League school's with at least 500 program wins.
Cook Approaching 100 Wins -- Head coach Jeff Cook entered the 2011 season with 89 career wins as Dartmouth head coach and is poised to become just the second coach in Dartmouth men's soccer history to reach the 100-win plateau. Thomas Dent, Dartmouth's longest tenured coach, is Dartmouth's all-time winningest coach with 143 career wins in 35 years. After a win over Columbia, Cook is sitting at 95 all-time wins at Dartmouth. The earliest Cook can reach the 100-win mark is against Brown on Nov. 12
Big Green Players in the Ivy League Rankings - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and junior midfielder Kevin Dzierzawski (Oakland Township, Mich.) are both ranked in the Ivy League rankings. Mkosana leads the league in points per game (1.42), goals (8) and goals per game (0.67). He ranks second in shots per game (4.08) and total shots (49). He is also fourth in points (17). Dzierzawski leads the league in assists (7) and assists per game (0.58).
Lucky in the National Rankings - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) ranks No. 20 nationally in goals per game (0.67). Mkosana has been nationally ranked each of the last two weeks.
Mkosana Moving Up the Charts - Senior forward Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) is moving up the all-time scoring charts in his senior campaign. He currently sits at No. 2 on Dartmouth's all-time scoring list with 32 career goals and his 17 points this season place him No. 2 on Dartmouth's all-time points list with 75 career points. Mkosana is on pace to become Dartmouth's all-time scoring leader as well as Dartmouth's all-time points leader. Should Mkosana break the career goals record he will pass Bob Drawbaugh's who played from 1951-53 and should he break the points record he will move ahead of Vladdy Stanojevic who played from 1986-89.
Captain My Captain - Seniors Lucky Mkosana (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and Nick Pappas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) have been named captains this season. The duo will wear the captain's armband for the Big Green throughout the season.
Looking at Colgate - The Raiders enter Tuesday's contest with a 9-3-3, 3-1-1 Patriot League record after a 1-0 double overtime win over Lafayette on Saturday (Oct. 22). This will be the ninth meeting between the teams with the Big Green owning a 4-3-1 season advantage. This will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2008 season. Dartmouth won that outing, 2-0, at Burnham Field. Steven Miller's seven goals leads the Colgate offense while teammate Shane Conlin has four goals and one assist on the season. Grant Reid leads the defense with a 7-3-2 record and six shutouts in net. Reid has made 25 saves and sports a 0.45 goals against average. Chris Miller has also seen action in net this season and has a 2-0-1 record with a 1.80 goals against average.
A Glance at Harvard - Harvard enters Saturday's Ivy League contest with a 2-10-1, 0-4-0 Ivy League record after dropping a 3-2 contest at Princeton on Saturday (Oct. 22). Harvard is winless in its last nine outings and are looking for its first Ivy League win of the season. Saturday's game will be the 89th meeting between the teams with the Crimson holding the 43-37-8 series advantage. Agha Oblajulu and Brian Rogers lead the Harvard offense with two goals each and there are three other players with a goal each. Austin Harms and Brett Conrad are in net for the Crimson. Harms has a 2-7-0 record and a 1.46 goals against average while Conrad has seen action in four games and owns a 1.07 goals against average.
