PRINCETON, N.J. — Senior Reagan Fischer (Irma, Alberta) scored the game-tying goal with 2:16 left in the third period, and the Dartmouth women's hockey team earned a 2-2 tie at Princeton on Saturday. The tie moved the Big Green to 8-5-2 overall, 5-3-2 in ECAC Hockey and 2-1-1 in the Ivy League. The Tigers are 7-9-4 overall, 6-6-2 in ECAC Hockey and 5-1-1 in the Ivy League.

The two teams entered the third period with the score tied, 1-1. A little past the midway point in the stanza, Princeton took a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal by Brianna Leahy. It appeared the goal would be enough with the clock winding down in the final frame, but Fischer and senior Kelly Foley (South Boston, Mass.) had other ideas. With 2:16 left in the third, Foley passed to Fischer who beat goaltender Rachel Weber to even the score at two.

Neither team scored the game-winner with the clock running down and it forced the contest into overtime. Dartmouth was the more aggressive team in the five-minute extra period, taking five shots compared to three for the Tigers, but in the end both goaltenders were up for the challenge. It marked the second tie of the season for Dartmouth, after earning a 2-2 tie at Clarkson in the second game of the season on Oct. 28.

Despite taking more shots than the Tigers in the first period, 12-8, the Big Green entered the intermission down 1-0. Princeton's Gabie Figueroa tallied the game's first goal with 1:41 left in the opening period off an assist from Paula Romanchuk.

In the second stanza, both teams struggled to get a puck past the two goalies, but Foley eventually tied the game with time winding down in the second. It marked Foley's team-leading 11th goal of the season.

For the game, Dartmouth went 0-for-10 on the power play and Princeton went 1-for-6. Sophomore Lindsay Holdcroft (Pittsburgh, Pa.) made 30 saves for the Big Green and Weber totaled 39 saves for the Tigers. Dartmouth finished with 41 shots, while Princeton took 32.

The Big Green are unbeaten in their last four games and in six of their last seven. The team last lost against Harvard on Nov. 30. Dartmouth is also an impressive 6-1-2 on the road this season and hasn't lost away from Hanover since the opening game of the season at fourth-ranked Boston College on Oct. 23.

Dartmouth next plays at historic Fenway Park on Tuesday, Jan. 10, as part of the 2012 Frozen Fenway. The game takes place at 3 p.m. against Providence. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at Redsox.com/FrozenFenway.
