HANOVER, N.H. — The New England Football Writers announced their 2012 FCS All-New England Team today, and senior Rob Bathe and junior Michael Runger of the Dartmouth Big Green were chosen for the squad. Their inclusion gives the Big Green a total of 10 selections on the All-New England Team over the past four seasons.
Bathe, a 6-3, 275-pound center from Plymouth, Minn., was a first-team All-Ivy pick as well. The senior anchored an offensive line that allowed the Big Green quarterbacks to post the second-highest completion percentage (63.3) in the league and the third most passing yards despite attempting the fewest passes. His work helped pave the way for second-team honoree Pierre to average over 90 yards per game and five yards per carry on the ground. The offense ranked third in the league in total yards (3,829), yards per play (5.6) and touchdowns (31). In conference play, Dartmouth ranked first in passing efficiency, second in total offense, third in scoring and passing yards, and fourth in rushing yards.
Another first-team All-Ivy selection, Runger twice was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week while amassing 98 stops to become the first Big Green defender to lead the conference in tackles since Josh Dooley '08 in 2007. A 6-2, 225-pound strong-side linebacker, Runger posted double-digit tackles in six of the 10 games during the season and averaged 10.1 tackles in league contests, far and away the most among Ivy players. Against Princeton in the season finale, he racked up 17 tackles, the most by an Ivy player all season, to help the Big Green post a 35-21 victory. Runger also had 15 tackles at Holy Cross and 13 more against Harvard while forcing a key fumble. The junior from Lisle, Ill., also broke up three passes during the season and recovered a fumble in the season opener against Butler.
