HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth quarterback Dalyn Williams was chosen as the New England Football Writers' Association Gold Helmet Award recipient for his performance in a thrilling 38-31 victory on the road at Yale this past Saturday. The Gold Helmet Award is presented to a Division I FCS player, as well as a Division II and III football player, from New England who established himself for outstanding contributions to their respective teams on the given week.
Williams, a 6-0, 210-pound junior from Corinth, Texas, had one of the biggest games ever by a Dartmouth quarterback to lead the Big Green to the victory, completing 32-of-47 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns while running for the game-winning score with 2:20 to play as well. The 32 completions are tied for the fifth-most in program history, and his 388 yards rank fourth on the school's single-game charts.
With his team trailing by 10 at the half, Williams threw touchdowns of four and 30 yards to give Dartmouth its first lead at 28-24 late in the third quarter. Yale reclaimed the lead late in the first minute of the fourth quarter, but Williams guided the Big Green into field goal range, allowing sophomore Alex Gakenheimer to tie the score at 31. A stout defensive effort quickly put the ball back in Williams' hands, and he guided the offense on a 63-yard drive, capped by a two-yard quarterback keeper into the end zone.
Williams currently ranks third in career total yardage at Dartmouth with 4,675 yards, sixth in passing with 3,566 yards and completions with 291, and is tied for fourth with 26 career touchdown tosses.
The recipient for Division II and III was Shaquille Brummit, a defensive back from UMass Dartmouth, who intercepted three Bridgewater State passes in a 37-10 victory.
Dartmouth (3-1) is hosting Holy Cross (2-5) this weekend in its homecoming game. Fans will be able to watch the contest live through the Big Green Insider channel on the Ivy League Digital Network (ILDN) with Dick Lutsk and Wayne Young '72 calling all of the action. Audio of the broadcast can also be heard on the ILDN and locally on 99Rock, WFRD 99.3 FM.
