Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Taylor Ng, So., Haddonfield, N.J., Women's Tennis
This past week, Taylor Ng represented the Dartmouth women's tennis team in Pacific Palisades, California at the Riviera/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships. She wrapped up the trip with a record of 4-2, which included two victories over nationally ranked opponents. On the first day of the Championships, she went undefeated with a 6-4, 7-6(6) victory over Duke's Rachel Kahan and a 6-2, 7-5 win over Aldila Sutjiadi of Kentucky. The next day, she defeated Old Dominion's Borislava Botusharova, 6-2, 7-6(6), while on the third day, she fell to Stanford's Carolyn Doyle, 6-2, 6-1, before defeating Ana Vladutu of DePaul, 6-3, 6-2. She ended the week with a 7-6(6), 6-3 loss to Joana Vale Costa of Louisiana State in the consolation draw.
Frankie Hernandez, Jr. Miami, Fla., DB, Football
A junior from Miami, Florida, Hernandez was at the forefront of the Dartmouth defense that limited Penn to just 13 points on Saturday at Memorial Field as the Big Green stormed to a 31-13 triumph to open their Ivy League campaign. Among Hernandez' 11 tackles (that tied for game-high honors) was one for a three-yard loss, but his biggest play came in the second quarter when he recovered a Quaker fumble at the Penn 42, setting up the third Dartmouth touchdown of the afternoon. Hernandez also broke up a pair of passes, including a fourth-down attempt late in the fourth quarter that ended any chance of Penn pulling off a miraculous comeback.
