SAN DIEGO — The Dartmouth women's basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped on Monday at San Diego, 78-53. Sophomore Fanni Szabo led the Big Green with 24 points. With the loss, Dartmouth is now 4-1 on the season.
San Diego improved to 5-1 and will travel to Weber State on Dec. 6.
Junior Lakin Roland contributed 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the defeat and senior Milica Toskovic had eight points and four rebounds.
San Diego finished with four players in doubles figures and was led by Malina Hood with 19 points. Sophia Ederaine added 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Maya Hood and Cori Woodward each had 11 points.
Dartmouth finished the contest shooting 35 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the line. San Diego connected on 41 percent of all shots with eight three-point baskets.
In the final period, Dartmouth cut the deficit to as little as 16 (69-53) with 3:30 on a layup by junior Daisy Jordan. Szabo netted 13 of her 24 points in the final frame.
Dartmouth trailed 40-22 at the half, as the Toreros went on an early 12-0 run after Szabo scored the opening basket. San Diego increased its lead 25-7 after scoring seven consecutive points in a one-minute span. Szabo's 11 points led the Big Green at the break, while Malina Hood had 12 points, all coming from the outside. Dartmouth shot 28 percent from the floor but made 7-of-9 from the line. San Diego collected 30-of-45 rebounds and also shot 56 percent from the field with five triples.
Dartmouth hosts Hartford on School Day at Leede Arena this Thursday at 12 p.m.
