Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Lakin Roland, Jr., Jeffersonville, Ind., F, Women's Basketball
Junior Lakin Roland scored 18 points in the second half to help the women's basketball team down visiting Loyola Chicago in overtime, 70-58.
Roland's 23 points and 15 rebounds led the way for the Green and White including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. The six-foot forward is second on the team, averaging 13.1 points per game.
Alex Mitola, Jr., G, Forham Park, N.J., Men's Basketball
Alex Mitola led the Big Green to two victories last week, a convincing 67-51 triumph on the road at Mercer on Dec. 16, and a thrilling 58-55 overtime win over Northern Illinois three days later. Against the Bears, he canned four three-pointers and tied for the team lead with 14 points as Dartmouth maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half. After the Big Green built a 14-point halftime lead against NIU, the visiting Huskies managed to tie the score and force overtime, during which Mitola took over. The junior point guard scored all 12 Dartmouth points in the extra period on four three-pointers, including the game-winner at the buzzer. He finished the game with 18 points, extending his streak of games in double figures to 14.
