Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week.
Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Northeast Credit Union Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.
Lakin Roland, Jr., Jeffersonville, Ind. F, Women's Basketball
Junior Lakin Roland set a career-best 29 points and finished with her third double-double of the season, as the Dartmouth women's basketball team defeated Cal Poly, 74-61, on Friday evening. Roland finished the three-game swing on the West Coast with seven points against Kent State and then eight points at San Diego. The Jeffersonville, Indiana native is second on the team with 15.4 points per game and leads the squad with 10.8 rebounds per game.
Brad Schierhorn, Jr., Anchorage, Alaska, F, Men's Hockey
Schierhorn picked up his team-leading third and fourth multi-point games this past weekend in the Men's hockey team's wins against visiting American International and Boston University. Against AIC, the Anchorage, Alaska, native assisted on two first-period goals that helped propel the Big Green to a 3-2 victory. The following afternoon saw Schierhon score the only two goals of the game as Dartmouth stunned No. 1 BU, 2-0, at Thompson Arena. Thanks to the efforts of Schierhorn and his teammates, the Big Green knocked off the No. 1 team in the nation for the first time since defeating No. 1 Boston College, 5-4, on Nov. 26, 2002.
