Winter Storm Damon
As Winter Storm Damon crosses through the Northeast, a pair of New England schools meet in Bangor. Both sides are looking for their sixth victory of the season. Maine is hoping to extend its winning streak to five while the Big Green are searching for their second win in the last four games.

Scouting the Black Bears
Wins over Harvard, Central Connecticut State, Boston College and Brown have the Black Bears on a four-game winning streak. In its last win over Harvard on Sunday, Maine held Temi Fagbenle to just three points. Liz Wood leads the Black Bears in scoring at 16.4 points per game. Wood was named this week's America East Player of the Week, after averaging 24.0 points per game in two games. Wood was also the America East Player of the Week on Dec. 1, after she helped her squad capture the Thanksgiving Tournament Championship. Sigi Koizar is second on the team scoring 15.5 points per game.

The Series
Maine holds the all-time series record over the Big Green, 9-4. The last meeting took place on Nov. 15, 2007, a 67-53 victory for the Black Bears. The first meeting between both schools was on Jan. 3, 1985, a 67-47 win by Maine.

The One That Got Away
Current Maine head coach Richard Baron has bounced around a few BCS level programs as an assistant — NC State and Baylor — before making the leap to Orono. But before that, Baron was the head coach at Princeton from 2000-07. During his time with the Tigers, Baron recruited a player from Buck County, Pa. This player went on to win the 2010-11 Ivy League Player of the Year award and also happens to be an assistant coach on Belle Koclanes' staff. Her name is Addie Micir.

Szabo Named Ivy Co-Player of the Week
Sophomore Fanni Szabo was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week after averaging 23.6 points over three games this week, as announced by the league on Monday. Szabo began the week on the West Coast with a 26-point performance against San Diego, where she also added four rebounds, four steals and two rebounds. In a home matinée on Thursday, Szabo scored 20 points in a 49-43 win over Hartford. The Budapest, Hungary, native, also contributed three rebounds, three steals and two assists in the School Day victory. At Vermont on Sunday, Szabo chimed in 25 points, five rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist.

Catamounts Take Twin State Battle
Vermont finished with four players in double figures and held on late in the second half to defeat Dartmouth, 68-63. Szabo led all scorers with 25 points. Juniors Lakin Roland and Daisy Jordan also finished in double figures with 14 and 12 points each.

If you continue reading down, you will see that the Big Green started this season 4-0, before losing to San Diego. In the sixth game, Dartmouth defeated Hartford to start the season 5-1.

This season, the Big Green have put an extra emphasis on defense. As a team, the Big Green are ranked fourth in the Ivy League and 87th in the NCAA allowing 59.3 points per game. Dartmouth is also ranked third in the Ivies and 47th overall in field goal defense, allowing the opposition to shoot 35.2 percent from the field. Not only is the team helping out as a whole, but Lakin Roland leads the Ancient Eight and is ninth nationally with eight defensive boards per game.

Szabo leads the Charge
Fanni Szabo leads the Big Green and the Ivy League in scoring at 22.1 points per game, where she ranks 17th in the NCAA. Szabo has reached double figures in six-of-the-seven games this season, with her season best of 31 points at home against Holy Cross.

Red Hawk Down
Junior Daisy Jordan made a game-saving block with 32 seconds remaining as the Dartmouth women's basketball team defeated the Hartford Hawks, 49-43, in front of over 1,000 fans on School Day. Sophomore Fanni Szabo led the Big Green with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor. Szabo also collected three steals, three rebounds and dished out two assists. Junior Lakin Roland picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Milica Toskovic continued her defensive presence once again, securing 10 rebounds and two steals while also scoring five points.

Close, but no Cigar
Prior to the loss at San Diego, the 4-0 start by the Big Green was the program's best since the 2005-06 season. Dartmouth has started the season on a four-game winning streak three other times in program history before bowing out in the fifth game.

You Stay Classy, San Diego!
On Dec.1, the Big Green had its four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of San Diego, 78-53. Sophomore Fanni Szabo led the team with 24 points. Junior Lakin Roland contributed 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the defeat and senior Milica Toskovic had eight points and four rebounds.

Big Green Claim ShareSLO Tournament
The Big Green finished 2-0 at the Cal Poly / ShareSLO Tournament (Nov. 28-29), defeating the host Mustangs, 74-61 and Kent State, 60-49. Szabo and Roland were named to the all-tournament team after leading the Big Green in both victories. Roland and Szabo finished the weekend averaging 18.0 and 16.0 points, respectively.

Big Green Picked Sixth in Ivy Poll
Dartmouth was chosen tied for sixth place in the ivy League preseason poll as announced by the League office on Oct. 28. Defending Ivy League champion Penn and previous league winner Princeton both received 123 votes for a share of the top spot. The Tigers though, were granted nine first-place votes, while the Quakers had seven. Harvard was chosen third and also received one first-place nod. Yale secured fourth place, followed by Cornell, Dartmouth and Columbia in sixth, respectively and Brown in eighth.

Who Made This Schedule?
For her first constructed non-conference schedule, Koclanes has put together a nice balance of home and away games to build the team into a cohesive group come Ivy League play. The calendar features five squads who qualified for postseason tournaments, four 20-win teams and six non-Ivy rematches from last season. This balanced slate will prepare her squad for the 14-game Ivy League season, beginning in January.

Dartmouth retained its coaching staff from last season, as assistant coaches Maria Noucas and Addie Micir join director of basketball operations Michael Motta on Koclanes' staff once again.
