HANOVER, N.H. — The Ivy League announced its weekly football players of the week today following the first week of competition, and Dartmouth quarterback
Dalyn Williams shared the Offensive Player of the Week award with his counterpart at Yale, Morgan Roberts. This is the second time he has earned this honor in his career, having received it after the season opener last year as well.
The junior from Corinth, Texas, led the Big Green back from a 12-point deficit late in the first half to knock off the visiting Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at Memorial Field on Saturday night,
35-25. Williams matched a career high with three touchdown tosses while completing 14-of-24 overall for 216 yards, plus ran for 75 yards on just 11 carries, the penultimate of which was a 28-yard burst into the end zone for the final Dartmouth points of the night.
Williams' first scoring strike came on Dartmouth's opening possession, an 14-yard screen pass to junior running back
Kyle Bramble. The Blue Devils then proceeded to score the next 19 points before the 6-0, 210-pound QB led the Green on a seven-play, 66-yard touchdown drive in a mere 1:24 shortly before the half ended.
In the second half, Williams guided the offense on touchdown drives on each of the first three Dartmouth possessions. First he found senior
Bo Patterson in the left corner of the end zone from 20 yards out to put the Big Green back on top, 21-19, then connected with senior
Ryan McManus on a 19-yard touchdown in close to the same spot. When Williams broke free for his scoring scamper, Dartmouth owned a 35-19 advantage and never looked back.
For his career, Williams is just 37 passing yards shy of becoming the eighth quarterback in school history to amass 3,000 in a career. And with just 100 more rushing yards, he will become the second Dartmouth quarterback to reach 1,000 in a career, joining Jon Aljancic '97, who totaled 1,015.
The Big Green (1-0) hit the road to play in-state rival New Hampshire for the first time in five years. The fourth-ranked Wildcats (2-1) are coming off a big road win at then-17th-ranked Richmond, 29-26. Dartmouth fans can listen to the broadcast team of Dick Lutsk and Wayne Young on 99Rock, WFRD 99.3 FM in Hanover for the game that kicks off at 6 p.m. Video is also available online on UNHWildcats.tv at a cost of $9.95.
Notes: Williams has four Ivy League weekly awards to his name, having been the conference's Rookie of the Week twice during the 2012 campaign … this is the sixth straight year Dartmouth has had at least one Offensive Player of the Week …
Dominick Pierre '14 was the last Big Green player to receive the honor, doing so last Oct. 14 after a homecoming victory over Yale.
